Short Biography
Professor Dr. Fazilatun Nessa is a pharmacist, academic, researcher, and higher-education teacher, and administrator. She currently serves as Professor, Head and Dean of the Department of Public Health, School of Public Health and Life Sciences, Canadian University of Bangladesh, Dhaka. Professor Nessa earned her PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Universiti Sains Malaysia. She previously completed her Master of Pharmacy in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Bachelor of Pharmacy, both with First Class results, from the University of Dhaka.
Dr. Nessa has more than three decades of professional experience spanning education, scientific research, industry, and academic administration. Before joining the Canadian University of Bangladesh, she served at Dubai Pharmacy College, Dubai Medical University, progressing from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and later Professor. During her long tenure there, she also held several administrative responsibilities, including Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry & Natural Products, Head of Laboratories, Head of the Curriculum Review Committee, and Head of the Professional Practice Experience Unit. Her research interests and publications cover a broad range of areas within pharmaceutical chemistry and natural products, including pharmaceutical equivalence and quality evaluation of medicines, antioxidant and free-radical scavenging activity, xanthine oxidase inhibition, medicinal plants, herbal products, antimicrobial activity, heavy/toxic metal contamination, and analytical methods development and validation.
Dr. Nessa has also made significant contributions to research supervision and postgraduate examination. She has supervised undergraduate pharmacy research projects, supervised and co-supervised postgraduate research projects, and served as an external examiner for PhD theses.
Dr. Nessa has also remained actively engaged in continuing professional development through conferences, faculty-development programs, workshops, and training in assessment, leadership, online learning, and evidence-based practices.
