Dr. Kazi Abu Taher completed his B.Sc. Engineering (1st Class 1st with Honors) in Telecommunication from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) in 1999. He is also a graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. He completed his M.Sc. in Communication from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in August 2005, and his Ph.D. in Communication from the same department in December 2017. He carried out his Ph.D. research work at City University London and at the National University of Singapore under the Erasmus Mundus mobility scholarship programme. His research interests include Opto-electronics and Photonics, Optical Fiber Communication Systems, Optical Networks and Security. He has 63 publications in different international journals and conference proceedings.
He served at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) for 12 years 4 months as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor, and at American International University - Bangladesh (AIUB) as Associate Professor. He served at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) for 6 years 9 months as Professor. Before joining the Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB), he served Prime University from May 2025 to October 2025. He is serving at the CUB since November 2025.
He joined the Corps of Signals, Bangladesh Army as a commissioned officer on 25 December 1987 and served for about 30 years in different command, instructional and staff appointments. He commanded a communication unit for two years and commanded troops at different levels for more than 15 years. He served in peacekeeping missions in Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast for two years six months holding different important appointments. He retired from the Army with the rank of Lt. Col on 10 June 2017.
