Effective Cross-Examination Workshop Enlightens Law Students at CUB
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Showkat Hossain, Additional District Judge, Member (Judicial), First Court of Settlement, Dhaka.
The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in courtroom settings. The workshop mainly focused on how actual courts are different from what law students expect them to be. The session included practical examples of how examination in chief and cross-examinations of the witnesses are done in the actual trial, the common mistakes trial lawyers make during cross-examinations, what the judges expect from a skillful lawyer, the basic tricks and thumb rules of cross-examination and how to master the skill of cross-examinations.
With examples of actual cases, the speaker demonstrated that the stereotypical way of cross-examination doesn’t serve the actual purpose of it. At the same time, the speaker explained what the most effective way of cross-examination is.
This workshop was attended by honourable advisor of Law Department Professor Dr. Nazmuzzaman Bhuian, Head of Law Department, Mohammad Sunzad Sheikh, respected faculties and students of the department.
